Let's explore rhythm and making music together in a safe, healthy and fun group. No previous musical experience or talent is needed. Percussion instruments and hand drums will be provided, although you can bring your own. Each drum circle will include beginner instructions and will be
appropriate for returning participants as well.
This class will introduce the diversity of the work of Faith Ringgold, best known for her story quilts and her children's book, "Tar Beach", and Pacita Abad, originally from the Philippines, but whose body of work reflects her international influences through paint and fabric. Both women, now deceased, were artists concerned with both social issues and broke barriers with their colorful, larger than life art pieces, and their proud heritage as women of color navigating the
traditional art world.

Westminster College was one of the first two PA colleges to grant degrees to women. The Underground Railroad aided those escaping slavery. Ira D. Sankey was a noted evangelist. Guy Lombardo and Stan Kenton performed at the Ellhurst Dance Hall. Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead played at Sylvan Golf Course. “Hack” Wilson played major league baseball. The Harlensburg Cave is said to be the longest mapped cave in PA. McConnells Mill became the 45th PA State Park.

This course will explore the work of four popular American songwriters--Walter Donaldson, Hoagy Carmichael, Johnny Mercer and Jimmy Van Heusen. Emphasis will be not only on their lives and careers but how their work contributed to American popular culture. Classes will include a mixture of lecture, discussion, music and video clips.

A dusty cardboard box full of her father’s WWII memorabilia, including maps, photos, and a group history book, led my family and me on a trip to Europe to follow in the footsteps of my father, a combat engineer. The journey began in Normandy and ended in Germany. This presentation will document the trip, and include WWII history, photos, and excepts form letters written to loved ones on the home front. This is an “encore performance” from the Spring of 2020.
The history of modern transportation is a story with many ties to Pennsylvania. Drake Well, steamboats, interstate highways, Lindbergh and Earhart, world famous canals, bridges, and railroads. All of these have connections here in our own backyard.

Chincoteague and Assateague Islands, the mystery of how the Chincoteague Ponies arrived, the history of the ponies, and information on annual Pony Penning Week and the famous Pony Swim.
Remember the television comedy show from the late 60's called "Hogan's Heroes"? As my father use to say, "There is a lot of truth to it." Learn of a young B-17 pilot's experiences in a German Prisoner of War Camp during World War II as told by his daughter. Hear of the lieutenant's daily life and houghts spanning from his capture in August of 1944, to his liberation in April of 1945 from Stalag Luft III.
